Authorities stated they were notified by a resident who noticed a automobile in Hanau covered with reddish fluid

Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a statement.

Officers report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.

The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.

Law enforcement then found many other vandalized cars and house walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials state initial examinations show the substance was likely blood from a person.

"There is still no clue as to its source; authorities are not yet cognizant of any injuries in connection with the event," they commented.

Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the case" and have requested to the community for details.

A high-ranking official commented the vandalism left him without words and needed to be solved quickly.

"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, mentioning the death of nine people by a shooter targeting residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
