Larian Studios Reveal a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Most Ambitious RPG Yet

The speculation about the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The question is finally answered. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team might be designing a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it sparked the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, branching plots, and flexible progression—elements that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities that are viable if you're playing as a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also famously flexible, enabling players to experiment both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be completed in a variety of manners, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can get ready for a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
